Gameplay: 5/10

This chapter is very simple: there’s a few enemies dotted around a minimum size map, there’s a recruitable unit in the village, and the boss starts moving if you take too long. It’s nothing amazing, but by no means is it bad.

Presentation: 1/5

Almost everything is vanilla, aside from the portraits and mugs. Of note, the title screen hasn’t been changed.

Story: 2/5

The story is very basic: monsters have attacked a village and a soldier must defeat them. Points are given for every character having a battle quote with the boss.

It took me longer to patch the rom than it did to clear the map.

GBA and Repo assets plus vanilla music.

It’s… extremely empty and easy. This is fine. The hardest thing I encountered, really, was that on Difficult, random levels can make Ville unable to one-round Revenants, so it requires double-checking.
Ville has A lances, allowing you to trade Kirby’s Spear or Silver Lance over to get that extra edge of damage if needed; but this is clearly unintentional due to the description of “Sword Cav” ending with “Equip: Swords.”
Aj one rounds anything she touches with ease, and can even one-hit-kill the boss with a critical.

There’s basically nothing “to do” on the map, either. I did somewhat enjoy playing the whole thing – a total of four times to make sure I saw everything – but it was *because* it was so short and there was so little to do. It didn’t overstay its welcome and there was nothing particularly bad going on.
There just was also nothing going on.

Presentation: 2/5

Using Follow Me! is a good choice, since it’s barely used in the vanilla game so it’s not too familiar.
The map has no errors, and looks pleasing – and it’s small, a definite plus.
There’s nothing particularly absent or lacking, though I wish the map was padded because the game doesn’t work well with enemies hugging the edge of the viewable area.

But there’s also nothing that makes it good, it just “is there”. It works.
I laughed at the class descriptions and Fenrir 2. It was just so quaint and amused me.

Story: 3/5

The plot is an excuse and barebones, missing anything to make it be particularly entertaining, but it has the courtesy of being brief, not wasting time, and having quotes and characterisation for everyone.

There’s nothing to say here, it’s extremely short and extremely easy, only taking me three to four turns and just being beatable by walking forward with the halberdier since no enemy was a threat to them other than the boss.

Presentation: 2/5

Much like the gameplay, pretty undercooked. The custom portraits are neat but two out of the three blue units don’t even have minis. The palettes are all vanilla I’m pretty sure and the only custom class was the halberdier.

Story: 3/5

Fine, but extremely undercooked with too little explained and not a lot of reason to care.
