The title is self-evident: it’s a tower defence map. At the start of each wave, the approaching enemies are shown and the player is given a chance to buy appropriate units. In total, there are ten waves, each with increasing strength. After purchasing, the game moves to “action phase”: the placed units move automatically until one side or the other is routed. The score is reduced because of a simple exploit: units can be bought even if the player cannot afford to purchase them. This doesn’t allow limitless purchase – the menu doesn’t appear at all if the cheapest unit can’t be bought – but still allows savings of up to 1,500 gold on the most expensive unit.

All assets are vanilla. However, the tower defence menu prompts are functional and look well, without any unusual clunkiness.

Story: 1/5

It’s a blatant excuse plot: a soldier reports incoming monsters to Fado, who tells him to deal with it before going back to sleep.

It’s Tower Defense. That’s really all there is to it. Though there is an issue in that money doesn’t matter, if you have enough gold to buy a 1000 gold soldier, you can buy a 2500 gold Manakete regardless of if you have enough gold for that purchase or not, so this as a result is very easy to cheese.

No effort was made here, it’s FE8 and you’re going to like it.

What story?

Not being able to B-press out of an opened menu is really clunky.

Auto-end turn being on by default, when this is just not a good match to the game’s behavior, is problematic.
Fortunately, the Revenant enemy I was initially greeted with was happy to stop acting.

For me, more than half the enemies just … didn’t initiate any attacks.

The Manakete/Dracozombie totally wasting its 3 use attack made me very disappointed by its total lack of stats otherwise – a basic mage would have done better due to this. It also then proceeds to not attack with its fallback rotten claw, as though the AI does not recognize it as a valid weapon for the class, or like it can’t make a single worthwhile attack because its stats without the rotten breath bonuses are terrible. Which meant that mine got 3 attacks off and then just died unceremoniously to archers. Wow, what a good use of 2500 gold.

The huge importance of unit skills which are not communicated is a fairly large letdown, in my eyes. The Fighter, due to its Lifetaker and high damage, is extremely competent at walling despite not really “obviously” being a tank.

Enemy fliers are… just about impossible to engage with due to the basic mechanics, unless they decide to run into range of you – you can’t move units too far in your turn so you can’t just “fix” a problematic formation instantly.

I hate not having control. The total lack of control here really makes me fiercely desire a hundred things that I’ve just been told I don’t get to have.

So I bought a Wyvern. It proceeded to also never decide to act, even when it could have. :) that’s fun. great. And the same happened for an Armor Knight. And then my Archers decided to not act. Like.
What am I supposed to do, if I make a defense line, but the units just randomly – with no rhyme or reason evident to me – don’t do the job that they claim to do? I can’t even check to see if it’s because my units have reduced movement during the action phase, I can only just take screenshots and be bewildered at why I have unused unit moves.

Also the game also doesn’t price check properly – If you have 1000 funds you can buy any unit even if it costs more than that.

Multiple enemies don’t actually charge the player, and when they choose to not, the enemy phase just ends. I built a giant collection of Shaman to fight the Cyclops boss and then it just moved a tile to the right and I won.

It’s generic bar the map, which is extremely tight but nice to look at.

Tension, however, is not a map theme. It’s… really hard to think to. It’s also the only song that plays outside of battle animations (all default with no palettes).

Story: 1/5

It’s extremely throwaway. I don’t even have words for how much so. There was no ending.

Really fun but really, really easy. The cyclops was the only real threat and the armor knights you can deploy are stupidly broken against basically every other enemy on the map. I’d love to see an expanded version of this.

Presentation: 4/5

No custom graphics from what I can see but everything used looks good.

Story: 2/5

Nothing here really, does its job but it’s so unsubstantial it may as well not exist.
