Long ago, there was a man who sought nothing but chaos in the world. To this end, he created the Arch of Coups. Whenever anybody stepped foot on this bridge, they would be promptly overthrown in a brutal attack. The natural order of all things would be destroyed. In order to preserve this status quo, Mario, an Italian plumber from Brooklyn, and Bowser, his rival, set out together in order to uncover who was behind this plot and foil it once and for all.
Initially a quick April Fools hack, Fire Emblem: The Arch of Coups is a large crossover hack, generally focusing on characters from 1990s RPGs. The current release, though with several bugfixes compared to the original version, is still not a very well balanced game. All playable characters started promoted, and the enemies were quite weak up until Chapter 4. From that point on, enemies were quite strong, with the final boss in particular being very dangerous. The storyline was not a main focus and as such there is very little of it.
- 5 playable chapters
- 14 playable characters
- 11 games represented
- Skill system in use
Development on v2.0 commenced in 2020, with various new features added. Balance is somewhat improved, with most of the pre-existing bloat in the skill system removed. However, development has currently stalled, with little taking place after FEE3 2020. Indecisiveness on which characters to include from what games helped cause this. Current builds are complete up to Chapter 7, two chapters longer than v1.0. Completion of the project on the Game Boy Advance is unlikely, but moving it to a different engine is within the realm of possibility.
